Target audience: Queensland based nurses and other medical professionals.

This one-day workshop is tailored for nurses and medical professionals who may be directly involved in assessing and medically managing alcohol and drug withdrawals in any setting. The content is crafted to deepen understanding and enhance practical skills, ensuring safe and effective care for individuals undergoing planned or unplanned withdrawal.

  • Overview of withdrawal syndromes associated with a range of substances.
  • Physiology and psychology of dependence and withdrawal.
  • Training in assessment tools and techniques for identifying withdrawal symptoms.
  • Evidence-based approaches to managing withdrawal symptoms.
  • Pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Strategies for developing individualised withdrawal management plans.
  • Skills for the management of deterioration.
